DISCOVER THE SPLENDID URBANISTIC ARCHITECTURE OF LICATA

Distance 7 km – A town that lies between the Salso River and the slopes of the mountain it’s named for, Licata offers plenty on the culture front. Its prominent 17th-century mansions, such as Palazzo Serrovira and Palazzo Caro-Dominici, are splendid examples urban architecture. Also worth visiting are the early 20th-century Art Nouveau bourgeois villas and the archaeological museum, which contains Greek and mediaeval artefacts

A PLACE FULL OF CHARM AND MILLENNIA-OLD HISTORY

Distance 42 km – Agrigento’s world-famous Valley of the Temples dates to the 5th century BC—a testament to the city’s ancient prosperity. Invaders destroyed them over the centuries, but there’s plenty to admire today. The Temple of Concord is the only one that has remained intact.

FAMOUS FOR ITS CERAMICS

Distance 63 km – Countless artefacts and artistic documents are a testament to the city’s ancient origins—it’s one of several Greek-Sicule cities on the island. Caltagirone also bears evidence of its other rulers: Roman, Byzantine, and Saracen. The clay-rich territory is world-renowned for artisanal ceramic production and has maintained all the charm of ancient traditions from the Muslim and Norman conquests.

THE WONDERFUL FLOOR MOSAICS OF THE VILLA, A UNESCO HERITAGE SITE

Distance 70 km – Piazza Armerina rises inland from the Gulf of Gela, perched at nearly 700 metres in central Sicily’s Erei Mountains. The city lies within a dense eucalyptus forest and is home to fourth-century Roman Villa. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the villa covers 3,500 square metres and is famous for its perfectly intact floor mosaics.

A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME WITH THE BAROQUE ARCHITECTURE OF RAGUSA

Distance 78 km – – A visit to Ragusa reveals interesting surprises; the city is set on a limestone rock formation between the San Leonardo and Santa Domenica quarries and divided into two distinct sections: Ragusa Inferiore (ancient Ibla) and Ragusa Superiore. The town is popular among travellers seeking ancient rural traditions, Greek archaeology, and striking Baroque and 19th-century architecture.

DEFINED BY UNESCO AS “CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY”

Distance 140 km – Rich in chapiters, Baroque friezes, churches, and noble palaces, Noto has earned the title of UNESCO Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Must-sees include the ancient remains of the cities of Eloro and Noto Antica and the Oasis of Vendicari, a nature reserve known for its mild climate and fantastic Mediterranean scrub.
